44th Uppsala Short Film Festival : The 44th Uppsala Short Film Festival has been recently announced for entrie seeking for short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes.

Short description

The 44th Uppsala Short Film Festival has been recently announced for entrie seeking for short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes. Uppsala Short Film Festival is recognized by Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which means that winning the international or national competition at the festival may qualify a film for Oscar consideration. The festival is also recognized by the European Film Academy and BAFTA. Screening at the festival qualifies Swedish short films for Guldbagge nominations. The 2025 Festival includes the following competitive sections:

National Competition
Children’s Film Competition
International Competition

Short films of all genres with a running time of no more than 40 minutes are accepted for consideration. Submitted films must have been produced 2024 or 2025.

Founded in 1982, Uppsala Short Film Festival has since become Sweden’s premier arena for short film and one of the most important short film festivals in Europe. Every year the festival screens more than 300 short films in different sections exploring the diversity and richness of the short film – from new film to retrospective programmes, from fiction film, documentaries and experimental film to animations. The 44th Uppsala Short Film Festival will take place 20-26 October 2025.

Who may enter?

This competition is open to all filmmakers worldwide.

Prize:

The following prizes will be awarded in the International Competition:

➜ The Uppsala Grand Prix (Uppsala Film Jackdaw and 50,000 SEK) The award goes to the director of the best film in the International Competition. The festival is recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and the winner of the Uppsala Grand Prix may qualify for consideration in the short films’ Oscar® categories
➜ The Uppsala Award in Memory of Ingmar Bergman (50,000 SEK awarded by the Cultural Affairs Board in Uppsala) The award goes to a young and promising director who pushes the boundaries of film art
➜ The Uppsala Short Film Candidate for the European Film Awards
➜ The Audience Award

Multiple prizes will be awarded in the other two competitive sections as well.

Entry fees:

During the Regular (30 April 2025) subission period entry fee cost 15 Euro in International Competition section. Instead in the Children’s Film Competition section cost 5 Euro until 31 May 2025.
