Royal Society of Biology Photography Competition 2024: Royal Society of Biology Photography Competition 2024, international annual competition has been recently opened for entries inviting amateurs photographers to submit they best photos on a this year theme 'Transforming Life'.

The Royal Society of Biology Photography Competition 2024, annual competition every year invites amateurs to submit photographs on a particular theme.
The theme of this year competition is ‘Transforming Life’.
Organiser invites submissions that explore the profound changes occurring across our planet, highlighting the resilience and adaptability of life in response to environmental changes, human intervention, and scientific innovation.
Including but not limited to:
➜ Ecosystem dynamics and biodiversity: explore the transformations across diverse natural or managed ecosystems, from the microscopic to the macroscopic, or landscape scale views
➜ From single cells, or small multicellular life all the way up to mega fauna and flora; from life in one place to mass migrations, or wildlife living in unexpected places such as towns and cities.
➜ Humans transforming life: reflect on humanity’s reciprocal relationship with the natural world, including our creation of new habitat areas on land or in the oceans
➜ Scientific innovation in the biosciences including climate change mitigation measures, and examples of the beneficial and life-changing impact of bioscientists’ work and innovation
Entries must be digital images. Each entrant may submit a maximum of 3 images to the competition. Past photographs can be submitted into the competition.
There are two categories in the competition:
➜ Photographer of the Year (18 and over)
➜ Young Photographer of the Year (under 18)
Shortlisted entrants will be notified in October 2024. The full details of the winner, runner-up and highly commended entries will be announced as part of the Royal Society of Biology Annual Awards Ceremony in October 2024.
➜ Submission requirements:
➜ Images should be submitted as high resolution JPEG or PNG files no larger than 10MB. Please keep copies of all your original and resized images safe. If you are successful in being shortlisted, organiser will request your original file for further judging and reproduction purposes.
➜ There are no restrictions on the type of camera used but it should be noted that part of the judging criteria will be technical excellence and it is therefore recommended that you use the highest possible quality setting on your camera. The original file should be as large as you can achieve with your equipment.
➜ The faithful representation of what was captured at the time of the shot being taken must be maintained. Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work (removing dust spots), levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work. Cropping and light sharpening is allowed, but entrants are warned against risk of losing quality. To ensure your image can be printed at A2 size for the purposes of exhibition, the longest edges of the image should be a minimum of 2500 pixels, with no interpolation (digital upscaling). Images of smaller dimensions may be excluded at the judges’ discretion.
➜ Who may enter?
This competition is open to any amateur photographers both in and outside of the UK (i.e. anyone who earns less than 50% of their annual income through photography).

➜ Young Photographer of the Year (under 18): £500
