Short description

TerraViva launches Nautical Club Ohrid, a new architecture competition that invites architects, interior designers, students, enthusiasts, engineers, artists, makers and anyone interested in the fields of architecture and urban regeneration to participate.

Participants are invited to submit innovative adaptive-reuse projects focused on the “Youth Union Summer Retreat” building in Ohrid, working on the recovery of this modern heritage left unused for over twenty years.

The idea is to conceive a dynamic social space capable of attracting citizens and visitors to the western side of the lakefront, providing an engaging alternative to the fanciest Eastern Ohrid. The main challenge will be to envision how this 70+ years old structure could serve the needs of a contemporary vibrant lake-club.

Working on the recovery of this modern heritage left unused for over twenty years and taking inspiration from Boris Chipan’s original program, the competition requires the design of a Nautical & Social Club open to both the local community and the seasonal tourists.

When approaching such an intriguing building, designed by a well-known architect whose practice successfully bridged the old and new, great care must be taken. Designers will be asked to pay particular attention to the users’ perspective. The concept can be designed for a truly varied audience: from water sports lovers and sailing experts to the laziest tourists looking to get a tan on the beach, from the youngest kids on holiday with their parents to local inhabitants in search of relax and entertainment, among many others.

Reflect on how your design could positively affect the renewal of the entire neighborhood, conceiving it as a fresh urban regeneration project capable of going beyond the boundaries of the project area.
