’The Art of Building’ 2024 photography competition, run by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has been recently opened for enties inviting both professional and amateur photographers from around the world, aged 18 and over.

The Art of Building photography competition is an international showcase for the very best digital photography of the built environment. We have a mission to celebrate construction and the built environment. One of the ways we can do this is by displaying the incredible photographs that are shortlisted or highly commended each year at construction sites with space to be transformed into a temporary art gallery. This is a great way to showcase the creativity of construction at its source. Competition Categories:

➜ Architecture

Focussing on the design and style of the built environment this category celebrates everything from the small details that make up a structure to entire cityscapes.

➜ Conservation and Heritage

Cultures around the world are often described by their built environment. This category celebrates the poetry of old buildings and showcases their relevance into today's modern world.

➜ Human Interaction

Entries in this category capture the story of how people interact with buildings. From those who build our infrastructure to those who live, work or play alongside the built environment.

Each participant may submit a maximum of three (3) photographs.

Entries must include a 50-word summary explaining why the participant believes the image aligns with the theme of "The Art of Building".

Submissions that have won other photography competitions are also not allowed

Our expert judges will select the shortlisted photos to be put through to the public vote. Usually around twelve photos are selected. The public will then vote for their favourite and the Public’s Choice winner will be determined. The judges will also decide which from the shortlisted photos will be the winner of the Judges’ Choice prize.

➜ Photos that inspire others to look at and appreciate the built world around them
➜ Original work by the person entering it
➜ The photographs must be entered in a JPEG format
➜ They must also be under 8MB (per photo) in size

Who may enter?

The Art of Building photography competition is open to both professional and amateur photographers from around the world, aged 18 and over.

Prize:

Each winner will receive a prize of £1,500.
