Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Competition 2025, promoted by Porto City Council and Cityscopio-Cultural Association, has been recently announced for entries.
Held biennially, this competition honours Luis Ferreira Alves, whose work bridged the analogue and digital eras and captured the essence of Portuguese architectural brilliance, including iconic projects by Pritzker Prize laureates Álvaro Siza Vieira and Eduardo Souto de Moura. It invites photographers from around the world to capture unique perspectives on architecture.
The “Luis Ferreira Alves International Photography Competition | A Contemporary Look at Architecture” is a prestigious platform for photographers worldwide to showcase their artistic interpretations of architecture through the lens of one of Portugal’s most celebrated architectural photographers.
This competition invites participants to explore the dynamic interplay between architecture and photography, encouraging submissions that reflect both the “objective” documentation and the “subjective” artistic expression that defined Alves’ perspective.
This is the perfect opportunity for emerging or established photographers to get recognised by a renowned jury comprised of individuals who have a long history with architectural photography.
The theme of the competiton is "A Contemporary Look at Architecture."
With support from renowned institutions such as the Porto City Council, Casa da Arquitectura, and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, as well as global brands like CIN, Canon and BPI, the competition ensures not only significant exposure but also a rich cultural dialogue. Winners gain recognition through exhibitions, press coverage, a curated catalogue and inclusion in academic and cultural discussions on architectural photography.
➜ Submission requirements:
➜ Each submission must consist of a series of 5 to 7 photographs. It should also include a descriptive text that communicates the essence and concept of the depicted architectural work.

Aspiring and professional photographers alike are encouraged to participate in this unique initiative.

➜ 1st Prize: 10,000 €
➜ 2nd Prize: 4,000 €
➜ 3rd Prize: voucher for photographic equipment worth 1.500 €
