Tactical Urbanism NOW! calls on architects, planners, designers and creatives from all disciplines to propose projects that redefine the role of public spaces in a dynamic and interconnected world.

Reimagine the potential of urban spaces through innovative, small-scale interventions that address today’s pressing challenges while inspiring vibrant and inclusive public life.

You are invited to design short-term, cost-effective interventions able to act as catalysts for larger transformations. For its 5th edition, the competition invites participants to embrace a “hyperlocal yet scalable” mindset.

The challenges of the 21st century demand new models of urban living, driven by evolving environmental concerns, shifting social dynamics and technological innovation. In recent years, cities have become laboratories for bold experimentation, rethinking how public spaces can respond to the complexities of contemporary life.

The competition seeks projects that not only solve functional issues but also spark community engagement, resilience, and sustainability. Whether transforming an empty lot into a dynamic neighborhood gathering spot or reinventing an underpass as a thriving public space, the goal is to demonstrate how small, thoughtful changes can leave a lasting impact on the urban fabric.

Participants can choose any location worldwide for their intervention. The key lies in demonstrating how your chosen site can become a catalyst for transformation. The idea is to discover opportunities in areas that might otherwise be overlooked, leveraging simple, tactical changes to breathe new life into them.

While the possibilities are endless, contestants are asked to explain the reasoning behind their concept. These small-scale projects, like acupuncture points, channel energy into the urban fabric, igniting systemic improvements that resonate far beyond their immediate footprint.

The jury will evaluate all the proposals according to the following principles:

➜ Originality of the concept;
➜ Flexibility and multi-functionality;
➜ Creative regeneration of the context;
➜ Social impact of the proposal;
➜ Use of “Tactical” techniques;
➜ Graphic representation;

Projects that express a special sensitivity towards tactical design and quality architectural solutions will be highly appreciated.

Reaching deep technical-constructive details will not be considered extremely important in the evaluation process.

➜ Submission requirements:

➜ You need to submit 2 x A1 panels (59,4 × 84,1 cm), horizontaly oriented, saved as jpg. file, maximum file size: 20 MB each. All text present need to be in English.

➜ Project need to be accompanied with A brief text describing the proposal on A4 format verticaly oriented, saved as docx/doc. file, text lenght: from 250 to 500 words. All text present need to be in English.

➜ The panels must contain all the necessary graphic information to explain the project in the best way (title, diagrams, sketches, 3D visualizations, plans and sections, renders, collages, model photos). All kinds of graphic representations will be accepted.

Prizes up to 10,000 Euro will be awarded to the winners selected by an international jury panel.

➜ Entry fees:

During the (until 6th June 2025) period entry fee is 79 Euro. After that period ends the amount of the fee will increase.
