Plaktivat 17: ’Hello, Culture’ Poster Design Competition
Plaktivat 17: ’Hello, Culture’ Poster Design Competition is now open for entries!
Plaktivat 17: ’Hello, Culture’ Poster Design Competition : TAM-TAM Institut is announcing the international 17th Plaktivat Poster Design Competition in designing a city poster, this time on the topic of “Adolescents’ distress” and invites all creators, individuals as well as agencies and companies to participate.
➜ Short description
TAM-TAM Institute is launching an international socially responsible poster contest with the aim of highlighting the positive impact of culture on society and the individual.
Plaktivat is an international socially responsible contest, an activator of social awareness, inviting people to create urban posters and encouraging positive social change. The contest which started in 2015, is now held once a year and open to designers and design teams from around the world.
The historical significance of culture as a building block of Slovenian identity is in the eyes of the public predominantly commemorated on 8 February, Slovenia’s cultural holiday. The latter should be the highlight of the happening and not the only contact of the general public with culture.
Society’s relationship to culture starts within ourselves. By discovering it, we also get to know ourselves. It challenges us to approach less pleasant subjects, and thus to form and sometimes even reshape our personal opinions. As a result, it helps us to better express our own feelings, which is also extremely important for establishing new and strengthening existing interpersonal bonds. The latter is not only an individual experience – culture also powers the heartbeat of our shared understanding of the world and values, and translates it into socially acceptable norms in all spheres of public space.
Awareness of the importance of culture is declining and in a few years’ time, this may be reflected in a lack of many of the positive qualities of society, such as compassion and acceptance of diversity. One of the most important indicators is a survey on the decline in the number of cultural events and visitor numbers in Slovenia, which still does not reach the pre-epidemic figures, although even before that, the situation was far from perfect. In 2023, 24,154 events were staged on the stages of Slovenian cultural institutions. More than 3.9 million visitors, or 12% fewer than in 2019, saw them in person.
The call is open to all graphic designers, whether individuals, freelancers, students or pupils, agencies or legal entities wishing to co-create a shared living space. The call for applications pays special attention to students who will compete in the “Fresh Blood” category, where a winner will also be announced. All entrants who indicate “student status” on their entry form will be automatically entered in this category.
Entries are limited to works that have been created specifically for the Plaktivat contest and not been used in any other advertising campaign or entered in another contest.
Submitted works are evaluated by an expert panel, composed of internationally acclaimed creatives and designers.
The jury will select a winning poster from all the entries, which will be printed and publicly displayed at 500 TAM-TAM poster sites across Slovenia. It will be entered into the competition sections of the Slovenian Advertising Festival – SOF and the Biennial of Slovenian Design – Brumen.
