International Wildbird Photo Competition 2025 is now open for entries!

International Wildbird Photo Competition 2025: The International Wildbird Photo Competition recently opened for entries in its 43rd year, as a part of the Bird and Nature Festival, celebrates the beauty of wild birds through the art of photography inviting amateur and professional photographers worldwide to participate.

Short description

The International Wildbird Photo Competition recently opened for entries in its 43rd year, as a part of the Bird and Nature Festival, held annually in Abbeville, France. The competition celebrates the beauty of wild birds through the art of photography.

Since 1991, the Somme Bay has celebrated birds at the Bird and Nature Festival, which takes place every year in April. The festival is a public event offering activities for the whole family over a period of nine days. They believe that knowledge inspire action to protect and preserve our immediate environment and our planet.

This photo and film competitions have allowed organiser to obtain international recognition. This photo competition is now one of the 10 most renowned dedicated to wildbird in Europe.

The competition aims to illustrate the high quality of wildlife photography through excellent pictures from all over the world. It also seeks to promote awareness for nature conservation through the means of photography.

The competition features six categories: Bird Portrait, Bird in its Environment, Bird Behavior, Bird in Flight, Artistic Vision of Birds, and a category for Other Flying Species, such as insects and bats.

This allows photographers to explore various artistic approaches while capturing the essence of these remarkable creatures.

Each participant is allowed to submit up to 15 images, either across several categories or concentrated within one.

The competition places a strong emphasis on creativity and originality, encouraging photographers to portray birds in their habitat or in flight, as well as highlight their unique behaviors. Special attention is given to ethical photography, ensuring that images respect wildlife and their environments.

All award-winning images and a Jury’s selection will be shown during the event which will be held from 12 to 20 April 2025.

Submission requirements:

➜ Files shall be submitted in JPEG format, 3:2 ratio with exactly 3,500 pixels on the longest side (the shortest side should be of about 2,333 pixels), free of margin, frame or signature.

The author of a pre-selected image will be invited toto send the original file (raw or native jpeg) before January 22, 2025.

The winners will be notified by e-mail and invited to send TIFF (8-bit) or JPEG high resolution at 300 dpi. These files must be provided by email return for the realization of prints for the exhibition.

Who may enter?

The competition is open to everybody, amateur and professional photographers aged 18 or over of whatever nationality.

Prize:

The overall winner will receive the Grand Prix of €1,500. Each category winner will be awarded €800, and a special Public Prize of €500 will go to the photograph that garners the most votes from visitors to the exhibition. Winning photographs will also be featured in an exhibition during the Bird and Nature Festival from April 12-20, 2025.

Entry fees:

Registration fees is €2 per photo submited.
