BigPicture Natural World Photography Competition 2024: Presented by California Academy of Sciences, the BigPicture Natural World Photography Competition 2024, is recently opened for entries with the aim to encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this competition that will both celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of life on Earth and inspire action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery.

BigPicture Natural World Photography Competition 2024 has been recently opened for entries inviting all photographers around the world to participate.

The BigPicture Natural World Photography Competition, hosted by the California Academy of Sciences, is an esteemed annual event that has entered its 11th year. This globally recognized contest draws attention to the breathtaking diversity and beauty of life on Earth. It aims to inspire photographers from around the world to capture and share images that not only celebrate nature’s splendor but also emphasize the urgent need for its conservation and protection.

The BigPicture encourages photographers from around the world to contribute their work to this competition that will both celebrate and illustrate the rich diversity of life on Earth, and inspire action to protect and conserve it through the power of imagery.

There are seven categories:

➜ Aquatic Life
➜ Winged Life
➜ Landscapes, Waterscapes, and Flora
➜ Terrestrial Wildlife
➜ Human/Nature
➜ Photo Story: ’Unusual Perspectives’

The BigPicture competition not only focuses on the aesthetics of nature photography but also on its potential to communicate important conservation messages, making it a significant event in the world of environmental and wildlife photography.

This competition welcomes high-quality nature, wildlife and conservation images.

The objective is to remain faithful to the original experience and to never deceive the viewer or misrepresent the reality of the natural world. Localised adjustments should be used appropriately. Entrants retain ownership and all other rights to submitted photographs.

➜ Submission requirements:

➜ Images must be submitted as JPG or JPEG files in Adobe RGB, must be 120 dpi adn should be a min. 1920px on the long edge and max. 3000px.

➜ Who may enter?

BigPicture is open to all photography enthusiasts and professionals alike worldwide.

➜ Prize:

The Grand Prize winner will receive 5,000 USD in cash. The 1st place winners of the seven categories will each receive 1,000 USD in cash. Winners will have their work featured in the annual exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences. The competition also acknowledges up to six additional finalists in each category, with the exception of the Photo Story category, granting them certificates of recognition.

➜ Entry fees:

Entry fees is 25 USD for up to 10 single image submissions in any category and 15 USD for each 6-8 image Photo Story submission.
