2024 HG Wells Short Story Competition: The annual HG Wells Fiction Short Story Competition, recently annouced for entries is founded by the world-renowned BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife, Margaret, to celebrate the life and works of HG Wells and encourage creative writing, especially among the young.

The annual HG Wells Fiction Short Story Competition has been recenlty annouced for entries inviting everyone worldwide to participate.
The competition is founded by the world-renowned BBC Aeronautics Correspondent Reg Turnill and his wife, Margaret, to celebrate the life and works of HG Wells and encourage creative writing, especially among the young.
This year’s theme is “The Fool”.
The story may not be published, or accepted for publication, elsewhere including for other publications by the shortlist announcement date (Saturday 21st September 2024).
Entries must be in English. All submissions must be previously unpublished.
The winners will be announced at the 2024 HG Wells Short Story Competition Award Ceremony on Zoom on Sunday 19th November.
➜ Submission requirements:
➜ Double quotation marks should be used for speech and single quotation marks for other appropriate purposes.
➜ The length is 1,500 to 5,000 words.
➜ Entries must be in English.
➜ Entry to the competition are online only, with entrants submitting their story (as a PDF or text document)
➜ The story may not be published, or accepted for publication, elsewhere including for other publications by the shortlist announcement date (Saturday 21st September).
➜ There is a template available on the official website to make ensure your story is formatted correctly. You do not have to use it, but if it helps, please do so. However, whether you use the template or not, the pages should be numbered but the entrant’s name should not appear on any page except on the entry form
➜ Who may enter?
The HG Wells Fiction Short Story Competition is open to anyone worldwide.
➜ Prize:
The competition for those 21 and under has a prize of £1,000 for the winning entry. The competition for the over 21s has a prize of £500.
All shortlisted entries will also be published in a quality, professionally published paperback anthology.
➜ Entry fees:
There are no entry fees for those aged 21 years and under on Monday 8th July 2024. Over 21s must pay an entry fee of £10 or £5 for those with student id.
