Short description

The International Interior Design Association (IIDA) has announced its Student Design Competition (SDC) for 2025.

This competition celebrates the talent and fresh design ideas of interior design students throughout the world who are currently enrolled in an interior design program or institution.

The competition provides emerging professionals the opportunity to showcase their work and gain exposure in the interior design industry.

The 2025 IIDA Student Design Competition invites you to design several critical areas within a new pediatric clinic located in Denver, CO.. A newly constructed adult inpatient behavioral treatment facility in Denver, Colorado, will be completed in the fall of 2025. This new behavioral unit will provide comprehensive behavioral care from ages eighteen (18) and above. The facility’s design scope will include Lobby & Reception Area, Patient Room, Patient Toilet Room, Exam Room, Milieu Space, Quiet Room, Medication Room, Group Therapy/Quiet Activity Room, Visitor/Consult Room, Consult Room, Storage, Janitor’s Closet, Staff Work Charting Area, Washer/Dryer Closet, Sallyport, and Courtyard Area. The design should include spaces that support healing, intuitive wayfinding, and evoke confidence and trust for adult patients, and their families. The design should support a seamless interaction for patients, families, and care staff to optimize the experience and outcomes through interior design.

New drivers in behavioral care should be taken into consideration:

➜ Family-focused areas
➜ Adaptable and flexible areas
➜ Provide safety for staff, patients, and families
➜ Supportive and collaborative staff areas
➜ Acoustics and sensory interventions
➜ Positive distractions and a therapeutic care environment

The winning design projects will be selected by a jury of design professionals. Submissions are judged on excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, and function as well as the suitability of the design solution to the project challenge and the successful integration of the elements of design.

First, second, and third place winners will be selected by a jury of interior design and business professionals who will judge entries based on innovation and creativity, coherence and functionality, human impact, fulfillment of program requirements, and presentation of the information.
