Short description

The 41th Chicago Latino Film Festival Poster Contest has been recently announced by International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago. The Chicago Latino Film Festival is the oldest festival of its kind in the United States. Held annually, for four decades, the Festival has introduced to Chicago audiences the most representative and diverse selection of films from throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Spain, Portugal and the United States.

The Chicago Latino Film Festival celebrates the richness and ingenuity of filmmakers from across the Latino diaspora.
This international competition invites artists from around the world to contribute their creative talents by designing the official poster for this year Chicago Latino Film Festival. The selected poster becomes the face of the Festival, as it will be on the official trailer, program book, invitations, electronic ads, t-shirts, and more.

Participants are tasked with creating a design that captures the festival’s essence of diversity and multiculturalism, reflecting the rich tapestry of Ibero-American cultures while steering clear of nationalistic stereotypes and overt symbols.

By incorporating the number "41" and alluding to the festival’s rich history, designers are encouraged to explore new and creative ways to represent the Latino experience across multiple countries and traditions. The poster should not only be aesthetically compelling but also adaptable for various formats, ensuring it can be featured across both digital and physical media.

As such the image should be representative of how moving images are produced these days (digitally or on mobile) and how they are consumed (big, small and medium-sized screens, on the theater or at home, a blanket on a wall, on a public plaza somewhere in Latin America or Spain). It should celebrate the efforts and sacrifices made by these filmmakers to tell their stories.

Entries that allude to other aspects of the culture (dance, theater, etc.) or include such stereotypical illustrations as sombreros, tacos, cactuses, bullfights, etc. will not be considered.

Organiser encourages you to be imaginative and curious and even watch a couple of Iberoamerican films as you come up with ideas.

Design must be easily translated to a variety of mediums. Only digital submissions will be accepted.

The winner will receive a cash prize, and more importantly, their design will gain wide exposure, becoming the face of a major international cultural event. The opportunity to contribute to the longest-running Latino film festival in the U.S. offers significant prestige for any artist seeking to make a mark in the world of film and design.

The winner will be announced on January 21, 2025.
